okaidja side workshop1   Okaidja’s drumming and dance residencies offer students from kindergarten through the college level the opportunity to learn about, experience, and perform Ghanaian movements and rhythm. Students are first introduced to the history, importance and power of rhythm and movement in the African continent. They then learn basic rhythms, corresponding dance mocements, and how to collaborate as a group. Students learn to create a sense of community which allows them to appreciate the value of cultural diversity. In addition, students learn about how other ethnic groups celebrate life and how to apply the knowledge to their own lives. The residency culminates in a group performance for classmates and family.
